Residents pictured enjoying making some DIY Christmas cards..
Monthly Archives: November 2016
Madeline Norris, the artist facilitating the colour me purple workshops described this weeks session..”the residents have been exploring textiles and choosing colours, shapes and patterns and gluing and stitching pieces together” . “They have been following their individual interests rather than working on a group theme”. One resident commented “I have made all sorts of things, book covers and curtains, taking part in these sessions is a reminder of past times”.
Last week sitting in the autumnal sunshine that streamed through the lounge windows, we had fun making 3-dimensional flower cards. The flowers were cut out after they were painted and pinned to the cards using Brads split pins. Joining in the session were Valerie, Freda, Hilda, Muriel, Paddy, Julian, Edna and Cora.

‘Colour Me Purple’ is a project organised and devised by The Courtyard as part of their ‘Creative Ageing’ initiative. Madeline Norris is one of four artists who were successful in their application to work on this two year visual arts mentoring scheme. Each artist is supported by The Courtyard in Hereford and mentored by artist Jeanette McCulloch, while they embark on a two year programme of facilitating arts and crafts workshops to older people during 10 week residencies in different care homes across the county. Madeline will be working on a textile collage project for 1o weeks (one afternoon each week), with us at The Forbury, inviting residents to explore different fabrics and techniques to make tactile banners.
