Sue Davis from Sainsbury’s in Hereford has been working hard coordinating some creative community spirited projects that benefit different groups and charities in Herefordshire. One of her ideas included opening the café at Sainsbury’s in the evening as a space for groups to meet. She set up ‘Knit and Chat’, a group open to everyone, who meet each Monday between 6-8pm. Last year they knitted poppies, which raised £1040 and this year knitted more poppies and raised a staggering £2114.
Over the past year the ‘Knit and Chat’ group have also been busy knitting squares, from which 25 knitted blankets have been made. They began knitting them for residents in The Forbury Care Home in Leominster, as Sue Davis’ friend Hayley works there and they thought it would be a lovely thing to do. The residents at The Forbury were delighted to hear that they would be the recipients of 28 handmade blankets and they expressed their thanks by baking cakes for an afternoon tea party for Sue and some of her colleagues on the 20th November when they visited The Forbury. Sue Davies, her mum Cicely Holloway, Sheila and her son Tom Hughes, Lin Thomas and Chris Tong spent the afternoon meeting residents and distributing their crochet and knitted blankets.
