We had a perfect day for our canal boat trip with The Willow Trust on Wednesday 14th October. We travelled along the Gloucester to Sharpness Canal. We sat out on the deck in warm sunshine and the residents took turns to steer the boat, keeping us on a steady course.
After the trip Dorothy C commented on the journey in the mini bus saying, “It was a bit rough, wasn’t it? It’s the roads.” The boat trip, however, had been “lovely”.
Joan said, “We had a lovely day”.
Honey said, “It was great! It was a beautiful day, well planned and very comfortable. The company was great, especially the young man – made me feel younger than ever! We’ve yet to experience anything different. (It was Honey’s first trip with us.) I hope we realise how lucky we are. It’s lovely when you’re out with the men, feeling like this!.. see the photos below, click on images to enlarge..
An impromptu game of football / basketball / hockey broke out yesterday at The Forbury, Refereed by Emma with residents using their hands, feet and walking sticks to clobber the ball around.. Later there was a relaxing painting session with Lucy and crossword puzzles with Ron and John. For more photos from yesterday please have a look on our Gallery page!..
It is important for several of our residents to get out to attend services at The Priory Church. We now have more residents than before who would like to attend these church services and we are looking for assistance to safely accompany them to church.
The following two services are scheduled at times suitable for the residents to attend:
Parish Eucharist: 10am
Mid-Week Communion: 10.30am
We would be very grateful if you would like to come to assist your relative or friend, or to accompany the group walking to any of these services. If you would like to help, please let us know. You can phone The Forbury on 01568 613877.
Thank you very much!

Extract from ‘The Autumn’ by Elizabeth Barrett-Browning..
Go, sit upon the lofty hill,
And turn your eyes around,
Where waving woods and waters wild
Do hymn an autumn sound.
The summer sun is faint on them —
The summer flowers depart —
Sit still — as all transform’d to stone,
Except your musing heart.
How there you sat in summer-time,
May yet be in your mind;
And how you heard the green woods sing
Beneath the freshening wind.
Though the same wind now blows around,
You would its blast recall;
For every breath that stirs the trees,
Doth cause a leaf to fall.
Some lovely memories of hop picking on our conversations page from Edna, Cora, Hilda A-S, Winnie, Rita, Muriel B and Kaye..
